Getting accurate and complete information out of the electronic medical record (EMR) has proved difficult. The flexibility of EMR implementation had the unintended consequence of non-standard, sometimes, redundant documentation. Standard EMR surgical reports often omitted key data elements as a result.

Working with the manager of the Health Information Management department, and leveraging deep understanding of the EMR data model, REDi Health developed custom reporting that captured all relevant data elements needed to efficiently track and manage the surgical suite.

The custom-built reports eliminated the need for manual processing and improved the following hospital functions to:

·        Accuracy of surgical reports to frontline workers

·        Timely filing and turnaround

·        Faster billing

·         More efficient account management

With improved visibility into the overall surgical process, the HIM team has set its sights on leveraging analytics to understand rate-limiters in surgical workflows which will ultimately drive better patient care outcomes.

Automated processes help us bill faster, work accounts more efficiently, and prioritize workloads.
